SIZING

Which Size of Training Collar Do I Need

KINDer Collar sizing guide

We are finding that dog owners are liking the weight and size of the 2.2mm (small) Training Collar for dogs under 60 pounds. The 2.2mm will fit up to a 16-17 inch neck and can be increased to a 21 inch with the addition of the extra links pack. Large dogs over 80 pounds should probably move up to the 3.0mm (large) Training Collar. It fits up to a 21-inch neck out of the box. Dogs between 60 and 80 pounds are going to simply be a personal preference for each owner as both collars will work. If you prefer a lighter weight, yet strong collar, we would recommend the 2.2mm, but if you prefer a heavier collar, we recommend the 3.0mm.

Here is a guide to help bring you through the decision process:

  • Dogs between 12 pounds and 60 pounds with a neck size under 17 inches should choose the 2.2 (small) Training Collar.
  • Dogs under 60 pounds with a neck size over 17 inches should choose the 2.2 (small) with a 6-pack of 2.2mm links.
  • Dogs between 60 pounds and 80 pounds with a neck size over 17 inches:
  • Option 1 - 2.2mm Training Collar with a 6-pack of 2.2mm links. This option provides a strong collar with less bulk and weight when compared to the 3.0mm. This is our preference at Training Collar.
  • Option 2 - Training Collar 3.0mm. This provides a sturdier collar with larger links and heavier chain. Fits up to 21 inch necks.
  • Dogs over 80 pounds with neck size under 21 inches - choose the Training Collar 3.0mm.
  • Dogs over 80 pounds with neck size over 21 inches - choose the Training Collar 3.0mm with a 4-pack of 3.0mm links.

How Many Links Do I Remove From My Training Collar

Simply, clip your Training Collar to the two outside rings on the collar, then unhook one link. Go all the way around the neck with the unhooked collar and see where the it meets the leash hook. See how many extra links you have to remove and make sure you remove that amount, but in even numbers on each side of the center circle. Watch this video to see a demonstration.
